A court in India has given 10-year jail terms to 10 men for beating a Muslim man to death four years ago.
Tabrez Ansari, 24, died days after being attacked by people who accused him of stealing a motorcycle in the eastern state of Jharkhand.
A video showing Ansari being forced to say chants praising Hindu gods while pleading for his life had gone viral and led to huge outrage in India.
His family alleged that police denied him treatment despite his injuries.
The state police denied any wrongdoing.
The video footage from the night of 19 June 2019 showed a terrified Ansari tied to an electricity pole and being assaulted by the mob, with blood and tears streaming down his face.
His attackers forced him to repeatedly chant "Jai Shri Ram", which translates from Hindi to "hail Lord Ram" or "victory to Lord Ram".
Ansari did as told, but the mob kept assaulting him through the night. He was handed over to police the next day who then arrested him for theft. His family had alleged that they were not allowed to see him.The Hindu chant that became a murder cry Beaten and humiliated for being a Muslim in India
On 22 June, Ansari complained of nausea, vomiting and chest pain and was transferred to a hospital but he died from injuries sustained during the attack.
Last week, trial court Judge Amit Shekhar convicted the 10 men ruling they were "guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder".
The police had been criticised initially for not invoking the more stringent murder charge. Later on they did invoke murder charges against all the accused in a supplementary charge sheet.
However, the judge said there was not enough evidence to convict the accused of murder.
Ansari's lynching by a Hindu mob was not an isolated incident - there have been several similar incidents reported in India in recent years where Muslims have been attacked by so-called "cow vigilantes" over rumours that they had eaten beef, or that they were trying to smuggle cows - an animal many Hindus consider holy - for slaughter. Cow slaughter is illegal in many Indian states.
The attacks on the minority community have been condemned by opposition politicians. Senior Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi had described Ansari's lynching as a "blot on humanity".
Critics say anti-Muslim violence has risen since 2014 under the Hindu nationalist government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They say the prime minister has not condemned such attacks quickly or strongly enough.
The government denies this and points out that days after Ansari's killing, Mr Modi said he was "pained" by the assault.
Earlier too he had said that "killing people in the name of cow was "unacceptable".

Ratan Tata - Life and History
Tumblr media
Ratan Naval Tata was an Indian industrialist and philanthropist. He served as the chairman of Tata
Group and Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and he held the position of interim chairman from October 2016 to February 2017. In 2008, he received the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honour in India. Ratan had previously received the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honour, in 2000. Ratan Tata was the son of Naval Tata, who was adopted by Ratanji Tata, son of Jamshedji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group. He graduated from Cornell University College of Architecture with a bachelor's degree in architecture. He joined the Tata Group in 1962 starting on the shop floor of Tata Steel. He later succeeded J. R. D. Tata as chairman of Tata Sons upon the latter's retirement in 1991. During his tenure, the Tata Group acquired Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus, in an attempt to turn Tata from a largely India-centric group into a global business. Throughout his life, Tata invested in over 40 start-ups, primarily in a personal capacity, with additional investments through his firm, RNT Capital Advisors.
Early years
In 1961 Tata met architect A. Quincy Jones who spent three weeks as architecture design critic at Cornell. After completing Cornell, Tata briefly joined Jones at his firm Jones & Emmons in Los Angeles. While Tata was planning to settle in Los Angeles, he was called back to India by his grandmother.
Tumblr media
Later years
In the 1970s, Ratan Tata was given a managerial position in the Tata group. He achieved initial success by turning the subsidiary National Radio and Electronics (NELCO) around, only to see it collapse during an economic slowdown. In 1991, J. R. D. Tata stepped down as chairman of Tata Sons, naming him his successor. Initially, Tata faced stiff resistance from the heads of various subsidiaries, who had a large amount of operational freedom under the senior Tata's tenure. In response, Tata implemented a number of policies designed to consolidate power, including the implementation of a retirement age, having subsidiaries report directly to the group office, and requiring subsidiaries to contribute their profit to building the Tata group brand. Tata prioritised innovation and delegated many responsibilities to younger talent. Under his leadership, overlapping operations between subsidiaries were streamlined into company-wide operations, with the group exiting unrelated businesses to take on globalisation.
Personal life and death
Tata never married and had no children. In 2011, he stated, "I came close to getting married four times and each time I backed off in fear or for one reason or another." However, he was very close to his personal assistant Shantanu Naidu during the later part of his life. Tata was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in critical condition due to dyspnea and was under intensive care from 7 October 2024. He died there at 23:30 IST on 9 October 2024, at the age of 86 due to age-related issues. Following his death, the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of Jharkhand announced a day of mourning. On 10 October, Tata was given a state funeral. His last rites were conducted at the Worli crematorium. He was accorded with military and 21-gun salute during his final rites. Mumbai Police delivered a ceremonial guard of honour and his body was wrapped in the Indian flag.
Honours and awards
President Pratibha Patil presenting the Padma Vibhushan to Ratan Tata, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, in 2008 Ratan Tata received the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan in 2008, the third and second highest civilian honours awarded by the Government of India.  Tata also received various state civilian honours such as 'Maharashtra Bhushan' in 2006 for his work in the public administration in Maharashtra and 'Assam Baibhav' in 2021 for his contribution towards furthering cancer care in Assam.

I4C & Jharkhand Police Launches Pratibimb Web Portal A Game-Changer In Fight Against Cybercrime
Tumblr media
In a pioneering move to address the escalating threat of cybercrime nationwide, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Jharkhand Police, has introduced the groundbreaking Pratibimb platform. This innovative web-based tool is poised to revolutionize the approach of law enforcement agencies in combating online criminal activities, presenting a potent solution in the ongoing struggle against digital threats.
Also Read: Cybercrime in Nagpur - Cyber Blackmailer Couple Arrested in Pune for Extorting Money
Pratibimb's Unique Capabilities
Unlike conventional methods, Pratibimb not only aggregates data but leverages geospatial mapping to precisely identify the physical locations associated with mobile numbers linked to cybercrimes. Restricted to authorized officers, this platform provides an invaluable advantage in tracking down digital wrongdoers and taking swift action against them.
Mapping the Cyber Threat Landscape
Pratibimb operates by collecting data from every corner of the country on a daily basis. This extensive pool of information proves instrumental in identifying and tracking cybercriminals across India. The collaborative efforts with telecom operators play a pivotal role in initiating actions against these criminals.
Highlighting the importance of state collaboration in combating digital threats, a senior police officer remarked, "The Pratibimb web portal, which centralizes the collection and processing of crime data through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C), stands as a pioneering solution that promises to bridge the gap between different states in their fight against cybercrime."
Also Read: Kashmiri Brother-in-Law could not show Kamal, and pressure on Nagpur police failed
Advantages of Pratibimb
The primary advantage of the Pratibimb web portal lies in its capability to project mobile numbers associated with cybercrimes onto a Geographic Information System (GIS) map covering the entire country. This visual representation empowers law enforcement and service providers to determine the physical location of these numbers, even if they are being used for criminal activities in different regions.
Once the mobile details of a cybercriminal are confirmed, investigators can take immediate action by blocking the SIM used in the crime and restricting the usage of the associated mobile phone. This proactive approach enhances the efficiency of law enforcement agencies in curbing cybercrimes.

Jharkhand Police Workshop
To augment their efforts, Jharkhand Police organized a workshop that brought together top officials, including the Director-General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand. The discussions centered around critical topics such as the helpline number 1930, hotspot crimes against women and children, and the CCPWC Scheme.
Participation from officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), CBI, and other law enforcement agencies from Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation and cyber awareness in combating cybercrime. This collaborative approach is crucial in addressing the dynamic nature of cyber threats.

The Launch and Beyond
The introduction of the Pratibimb web portal and the deliberations at the JCCT workshop signify a significant leap forward in the battle against cybercrime in India. With the integration of geospatial intelligence and enhanced capabilities, both law enforcement agencies and the general public are better equipped to confront the ever-evolving threats in the digital landscape. Pratibimb stands as a testament to India's commitment to staying ahead in the fight against cybercriminals and ensuring a secure digital future for its citizens.

Naxal attack on former MLA: NIA files second charge sheet against two accused in Jharkhand
According to the NIA's investigations, they were providing support to the CPI (Maoist) for furthering its terror and violence-related activities and waging a war against the government of India.
Tumblr media
NEW DELHI: The NIA has filed its second supplementary charge sheet in a case related to a Naxal attack on former MLA Gurcharan Nayak in which two police personnel were killed in Jharkhand in January 2022, an official said on Monday.
The charge sheet was filed in a special NIA court in Ranchi against two armed cadres — 25-year-old Tivari Bankira alias Shaka and 20-year-old Sadan Korah alias Sajan — of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) terror group on Saturday, a spokesperson for the federal agency said.
The official said the pair, hailing from Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, has been charged under various sections of the Indian Panel Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
While Bankira was arrested on November 30, Korah has been in custody since February 13, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) spokesperson said.
According to the NIA’s investigations, they were providing support to the CPI (Maoist) for furthering its terror and violence-related activities and waging a war against the government of India.
“They were part of the conspiracy to carry out the terrorist attack on Nayak and his bodyguards. They were also part of the special action team established by the banned terror outfit to execute the crime,” the spokesperson said.
The NIA said the two accused had attended the meeting in which the conspiracy to attack Nayak with deadly weapons at High School Jhilrua was hatched.
“They had done a recce of the spot a day before the incident and had also participated in the training to execute the attack,” the NIA said in its charge sheet.
The former MLA was attacked on the school premises in West Sighbhum district on January 4, 2022.
The police had initially registered the case at the local station but the investigation was taken over by the NIA on June 30 last year.
On December 31, the NIA charge-sheeted 14 accused people in the case.
